How To Make Candied Bacon

This recipe for candied bacon is so easy to make, the only tough part about it is having to wait for the bacon to cool enough to eat it! Just lay out your bacon strips on a baking sheet, sprinkle that brown sugar goodness all over them, and let your oven do the work. 

There are few things to consider when making smoked maple candied bacon however. The first is of course: the bacon. Get your hands on a thick cut with an even spread of meat and fat. Some places even sell naturally smoked bacon that’ll intensify the flavours in the recipe even more. 

Our biggest tip when making candied bacon in the oven is to always make sure to watch the bacon when it gets near the end of your cooking time so that the sugar doesn’t burn. The trick is to let the sugar caramelize without overcooking the bacon. If you’re feeling like you want extra sweetness, add a maple syrup drizzle over top of your candied bacon. 

On top of the blend of salty and sweet, we had to incorporate a little spice. When we were coming up with this spicy candied bacon recipe we knew our smoked jalapeño hot sauce would be the perfect ingredient since it is made with real Canadian maple syrup. This infuses the bacon with the perfect amount of sweetness and heat.

      1. Remove your bacon from the package and arrange them on a baking sheet lined with aluminum foil.

      2. Begin by spreading Smoke Show Jalapeño Hot Sauce across each strip of bacon.

      3. In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar, paprika, salt & pepper together. 

      4. Add a generous amount of the rub to the bacon.

      5. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees and allow the bacon to bake for about 10 minutes.

      6. After 10 minutes, carefully flip the bacon strips, and repeat the process by applying hot sauce and the seasoning rub once again. 

      7. Bake until the bacon becomes golden brown.
